How Important Is A “Boss”?

The relationship an employee has with his or her immediate supervisor is crucial to an employee’s satisfaction and has a major impact on whether a person stays or leaves.  In a 25 year-long study done by the Gallup Organization, Gallup interviewed 12 million workers in 7,000 companies.  Do you know what they discovered? The relationship a person has with his or her manager largely determines the length of an employee’s stay.  One of the most important employee retention tips we can offer is:  Having high-quality supervisors and managers with strong leadership capabilities is of standout importance in attracting and retaining key talent for your organization.  It is certainly important to have a recruitment and selection solution that includes a complete process for finding, hiring, developing and retaining top talent.

Keep in mind that recruiting and selecting a new hire does not end on that person’s first day of employment.  WHO that new hire works for will be a key ingredient to how long the person stays and contributes to the success of your organization.

The long-term success of your recruitment and selection solution rests with the quality of the leadership training and coaching your supervisors, managers, emerging leaders and executives receive.

What Can and Can’t You Control?  We hear about all the things beyond our control.  The baby boomers are retiring.  Jobs are changing.  Multi generations in the workforce are difficult to manage.  Jobs are moving to other shores.  The workforce knows they have options.  People do not want to work for ‘jerks’.  Sounds harsh – but it’s true.

Developing the bench strength of your managers and leaders is something you can control.  Providing leadership training and coaching will enhance your ability to attract and retain top talent.  Use a sound approach in developing your organization’s leadership talent.
